Folktastic is an illustration project for children and families to learn, retell and create their own stories with folkloric creatures, legends and myths from around the world!
Stories and Comics
The Folktastic tell stories and have fun through comic strips inspired by central Brazilian folkloric characters, such as Kora (Caipora) and Pyro (Curupira)! We adapted legends and myths to a younger public, bringing forth modern dilemmas such as nature protection and sustainability, all made into eye-catching illustrations and fun stories.

Let's make regional folklore known and heard globally, to share our stories and ideas, to give importance and hype to the stories and people who introduced us to this fantastical world.
What language is this?
The project is bilingual, both Portuguese and English. Initially, the names of the characters were ‘americanized’ for the English version as a way to make it easier and fun for first - infancy audience. The names in the Portuguese version are kept the original, for easy recognition of Brazilian-Portuguese speakers.
The dual-language approach reaches a broader audience and promotes cultural knowledge making regional stories accessible to non-Portuguese speakers.

We present to you Fantastic Folkloric Creatures, a team of enchanting, bold and resilient characters determined to preserve nature, tell us traditional and modern stories through funny strips and fun games!
BEATRICE, THE ILLUSTRATOR
Beatrice, aka Bia, is an illustrator, best aunt ever and a baker (dairy-free only!)

Bia was born in Brazil and raised all over the world. Always very observant and wise, she payed attention to stories being told, and always writes down her dreams.
Between her passion for mangas, Brazilian comic strips, super-heroes and fantastic stories, she figured out a way to keep her childhood memories alive: bringing together her favorite folkloric creatures to social media and her every-day life.

Great admirer of Mauricio de Souza, Monteiro Lobato, and Japanese culture, Bia mixed and matched her inspirations and different styles and came up with the best, cutest and most exciting band of fantastic creatures we've seen, the Folktastic!
